Saturday, July 24th, 2010Wouldn’t the "ultra-sound before abortion" law help women to make a more informed decision?
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010I fail to understand why there are so many people opposed to passing this law. Wouldn’t it help the woman make a much more informed decision? Why are so many people afraid that this law may be passed?
It was almost passed in my state, but everyone went ballistic and did away with it.
I never said anything about "banning abortion" or intimidation, I believe that women should know what they are doing in case they regret it later. If she looks at the ultra-sound and goes through with the abortion, then at least she made an informed decision.
I don’t think people are objecting to allowing women to make an informed decision, they’re objecting to the government interference in her decision. Yes, it is probably for the best she see the ultrasound before the abortion, but it shouldn’t be mandatory or forced on her. It is up to her to be informed before making her decision, the government can’t enforce this. You could argue the same that there be government programs to educate all individuals before undergoing any surgery, but the cost would be astronomical and the logistics impossible. You also have to consider that the untrained individual really isn’t getting informed about anything when they see an ultrasound because they can’t tell the butt from the head. Also, given that most abortions occur during an embryonic state when the embryo is just a fraction of an inch in size and doesn’t resemble anything human, she’s not seeing much at all.
The issue really comes down to freedom of choice and freedom from government interference. If a woman wants to see the ultrasound she can ask to see it. If she chooses to be misinformed, ignorant or just doesn’t want to see it, that is her choice to make.

Info on getting an abortion if you need it . . .
If you go to a Planned Parenthood clinic that has a low-income program it can be as cheap as 100$. If you tells them you have no job, no money and no support they will likely have you pay the minimum for the procedure and get donations to cover the rest. 1-800-230-PLAN (1-800-230-7526) to find the Planned Parenthood clinic nearest you. If you are underage it will mostly likely be free.
You have the choice between the pill (which can be taken up to 11weeks, at home or at a friends house) or the vacuum method (in clinic procedure). Personally I used the pill method so I could be at home with my husband but some women want to have the surgical, so it’s done and over with when they leave the clinic.
You will be financially screened - usually this goes on the honor system, weight/height taken, blood pressure checked, pricked -fingertip- to check for rH factor and anemia, you will receive an ultrasound or sonogram to determine gestational age. You may be asked if you want to view the image, this is up to you. You will receive antibiotics, anti-nausea tabs and pain meds. Take them ALL. You must finish at the very least your course of antibiotics. Follow all aftercare instructions and go back to your after care appt. This last step is vital, you must go back for your aftercare appt! Abortion begins a new menstrual cycle. You should have a regular period in 4 to 8 weeks.you should have the option of receiving birth control - again this will most likely be free, take it and use it correctly.
If you are underage you may want to check this site out to see about parental consent laws and whatnot. http://www.sexetc.org/state *Even if it says you need parental consent, you don’t. Call PP and tell them you cannot tell your parents; by law, a judicial bypass must be available to those minors who just cannot get their parents/guardians permission. A judge signs the parental consent acting as a de facto guardian. Abortion funding http://www.nnaf.org/help.html
Some state medicaid program do pay for it, use this link and figure out if your state covers it. If they do, you can go to "welfare" office and get emergency coverage and the state and taxes will help pay for it. http://www.ourbodiesourselves.org/book/companion.asp?id=20&compID=64
If you have any more questions or want/need to talk about it drop me an email.
It is entirely possible to have an abortion and not feel guilt because you knew it was the right thing to do.

What are the pros & cons of the new abortion law?
Sunday, June 6th, 2010that requires women to have an ultrasound examination before having an abortion.
I’m not aware this is any new law–please inform us as to what state this is now a law.
I know that in the state which I live in–it is common practice in some areas for a women to have an ultra sound prior to termination of pregnancy in order to determine gestational age .
If the start of life is considered 12 weeks in (UK abortion law) why do we increase in age on the day we were.?
Saturday, June 5th, 2010…born?
I know the day a person is born is a pretty solid event that takes place and an event that changes the life of everyone around you but this makes our techinal ages almost a year behind!
UK law does not allow abortion without medical necessity past 12 weeks, but it does not state "life begins at 12 weeks gestation". They just made the first trimester the cut off point for abortions because they feel a woman should know whether she would like to continue a pregnancy or not by this point. It could also be a financial decision, given that all health care is completely covered in the U.K and they want to encourage first term abortions rather than later term abortions to cut costs.
We increase in age from the day we are born because that is when we enter the world and begin to live our lives.
Having to look at the ultrasound before getting an abortion? Is this a law in your state?
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010I live in Oklahoma and they are trying to pass a law where you HAVE to look at the ultrasound before getting an abortion and I was shocked when I heard this. Is this a common law or is Oklahoma the only one? What do you think the chances of passing a law like this would be? What do you personally think of it?
Just for the record, doctors have to do an ultrasound no matter what when preforming an abortion because they need to see what is going on during an abortion the entire time. Also, they have to make sure the mother isn’t too far along.
I don’t know what the law is in Ohio or surrounding states. I think that’s a good idea in certain situations, such as a 22 year old being very promiscuous using no protection, yes I think she should have to look at the baby and see what she is doing. If it’s an abortion that is a danger to the mother, or something like a very young girl 13 or 14 being raped and having an abortion than that is awful, they shouldn’t have to deal with the guilt.
Feminists: How would you feel if it was a liberal law for legal abortion if the baby is male?
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010But more strict abortion criteria was upheld when it’s a female fetus?
(Note by liberal law I mean ‘easygoing’)
soulflower - this could be applied to men too. Men make mistakes and we could do a male abortion where we abort all legal responsibilities. But I would never support that tho because I beleive, you make a mistake now you need to live with it. But why can’t women accept it too. I don’t understand. It should go for both sexes.
Only a sick jackass hole would want a liberal law for aborting boys but not girls. That’s the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard! It’s not like there’s 40 times more boys than girls in this country. It sounds like any man who would ask this either has a male persecution complex or can’t get it through their skull that most feminists aren’t lesbians, and don’t hate men.
In what countries other than the US is abortion law a hot political issue?
Tuesday, June 1st, 2010By hot I mean widely covered by media during elections, genuinly polarizing among the public, widely asked in politician vetting, and considered an important issue by many voters– on either side or between —
USA is probably the quintensential example- this is standard I mean to compare by.
I heard Poland used to be like this the 90’s
It’s not a hot issue in the UK.
In what countries is abortion law a real hot-button issue?
Monday, May 31st, 2010Other than the US — where despite being rather static, this debate is very influential in shaping politics — what about other countries? Obviously Panama and Canada aren’t polarized, what about others? Where is it a hot issue ?
It was a pretty hot issue in ireland - there was a referendum to change the Constitution so as to outlaw abortion…it passed by the way.
If Obama was to propose an anti-abortion law do you think the Cons would still oppose it due to their hatred?
Saturday, May 29th, 2010I am certain they would oppose it just because Obama proposed it! Do you think their hatred of Obama is stronger then anything else?
Yes, the hate President Obama more than they love America.
